How to Make Money as a Facebook Ads Manager as a Gig or Full-Time – How a former teacher turned his knowledge of Facebook ads into a full-time, 6-figure job for himself. And how to start making a side hustle or full-time income as a Facebook ads manager gig.
Who else spends way too much time on Facebook? Yeah, same. But what if that knowledge of that social media giant could be turned into a bill-paying, money-making, full-time side hustle that brings you in money every month? Sounds like a plan, right?
Good news: that’s a real thing. You CAN get paid to spend time on Facebook. And Bobby Hoyt is a MASTER at doing this. And he’s here to share how he got out from under a mountain of debt, retired himself AND his wife from their jobs, and wants to teach everyone how to do it for themselves, too.
So without further ado, here’s Bobby and all of his amazing knowledge of how to make massive money as a full-time Facebook ads manager.
How to Make Money Full Time as a Facebook Ads Manager (even if you have little to no experience!)
Tell us a little about yourself, Bobby! 🙂
Sure thing! I started my career as a high school band director that wasn’t quite happy with my career path. It’s not that I didn’t like teaching part of my job or the kids, but I felt trapped. Like a lot of teachers, I was really struggling with the idea that I would never really make a lot of money, and I definitely didn’t feel like I was being paid enough for how hard I worked (band directors regularly work 70-80 hours per week).
I also had $40,000 of student loan debt coming out of college, which didn’t help. Between that and my teaching salary, I was feeling trapped.
So I decided to live as far below my means as possible (up to and including renting a 10×10 bedroom from my in-laws and driving a crappy car with no power locks or windows), and threw everything I could at the loans.
18 months later, I had paid off the entire $40,000 of student loan debt!
But… I still had the job I didn’t like haha. So I started blogging, eventually created Millennial Money Man, and got SO passionate about working online that I walked in one day and quit my job after making a cool $3 in display ad revenue.
It wasn’t exactly the smartest move and I don’t recommend that anyone quits their job the way I did, but at the time I felt like I could “make it” with M$M and was willing to take a shot on it.
After I quit, I got scared. Not going to lie. I loved running the blog and it was growing, but I wasn’t bringing in enough money. In fact, I wasn’t bringing in any money at all.
That’s when I started looking for other ways to make money while the site caught on, and I eventually ended up connecting with the jeweler that made my wife’s engagement ring.
He needed someone to help run their website, create content, and run Facebook ads.
I was desperate, of course, so I started working with him and learning how to run ads for local businesses. The money was solid for the amount of work it took, and I picked up a few more clients which allowed me to make money while I continued growing my “full-time” gig.
What does a Facebook ads manager do? Do you need experience?
Put simply, Facebook Ad Managers create and monitor ads for clients to help them sell more stuff. It’s kind of like creating a FB post about the business’ offer, except you pay to have it shown to the people most likely to be interested in buying that offer.
And the best part is that you really don’t need any experience to get started. It’s certainly important to learn the ins and outs of Facebook ads before you start charging people, but if you’ve taken a course or something (like our Facebook Side Hustle Course) and know what you’re doing, you’re good to go. You don’t need a marketing degree or anything like that.
I mean, I’m a former Band Director and Mike was an attorney in a past life. We knew nothing about marketing before getting into this business.
What does it take to be a Facebook ads manager? Training, software, etc.?
One of the coolest things about this side hustle is that you don’t need anything other than a Facebook profile and some free tools to get started. It’s not like starting a brick and mortar business where you need to find a location, get a loan, and build inventory because you don’t have to invest money to start doing this. Your only investment is time and hard work.
You’ll need to learn how to create ads, how to monitor performance inside of the Ads Manager platform, and what actions to take to keep the ads performing well long term so that your clients are happy. We walk our students through all of this, step-by-step, inside the Facebook Side Hustle course so that they know exactly what to do.
What does a typical day or week of a Facebook ads manager look like?
It looks whatever you want it to look like. That’s the beauty of this side hustle.
There are a few tasks that you will regularly need to do including – creating ads, monitoring performance, making adjustments when ads underperform and communicating with your clients so they know what’s going on. But the nice part is that you can do this whenever it fits your schedule.
One of our coaches in the Facebook Side Hustle course used to work on his lunch break and after his kids went to bed. Mike likes to get work done while his kids are napping. It’s really up to you because you’re being paid for results, not your time. That means you can work as much or as little as you want, whenever you want, as long as you get the job done.
What is the best thing about being a Facebook ads manager?
Pants being optional. That’s hard to beat haha.
It’s really the flexibility. Especially if you’re able to replace your income like many of our students have and start doing it as your full-time gig. There’s something special about being able to earn a great living, but be able to work the hours you want. You can spend more time with friends and family, play a round of golf in the middle of the week (like I recently started doing), or just spend less time working and more time enjoying life.
One of the best things I’ve experienced from it has been being able to be home every day since my son Micah was born a few months ago. Most parents aren’t going to be able to spend as much time at home with their kids as I’ll be able to and having that opportunity is priceless.
How much can a Facebook ads manager make?
The going rate for Facebook Ad management is $1,500 per month, per client. Now I know that sounds like a ton (and it is), but you have to think of this from the business owner’s perspective:
If you could pay someone to send a steady stream of new customers to your business, would you? Especially if the leads were affordable, and you made way more money from the new customers than you were paying for the ads?
It’s really a no-brainer most business owners.
You also have to remember that while $1,500 is a lot of money, it’s not a massive expense for an established small business owner. Many times, their rent alone is several thousand dollars per month!
So when you look at the $1,500/month per client we recommend charging from the business owner’s perspective, it makes a lot more sense. Especially when they should be making that more than that back from the ads you run for them.
What advice do you have for someone who wants to become a Facebook Ads Manager?
Once you learn the basics of creating Facebook ads, you NEED to focus on client acquisition!
We know the idea of trying to find clients is hands down the most intimidating part of starting this side hustle, which is exactly why we actually give our Client Acquisition and Sales course to all of our new students for FREE when they join.
There are so many simple ways to find clients online, even if you’re an introvert or are brand new to the online business world. With the internet and social media at your fingertips, it’s never been easier to find high paying clients. We actually teach over a dozen different ways to get clients using a variety of methods and strategies like using Facebook groups, LinkedIn, email, YouTube, and Upwork just to name a few.
All of these methods can be used to find clients without paying for advertising. It just takes some time, effort, and a little courage to put yourself out there. Our biggest advice when it comes to client acquisition is to focus on one or two of the strategies that we teach, and then go all in on those.
Our students tend to gravitate to different strategies, but we’ve found that the ones who stay focused and put the work in using the strategies that appeal to them most are the ones that stack multiple clients (assuming they want more than just one).
It’s also important to note that we don’t just give you the strategies and send you out into the world on your own.
We help our students strategize client acquisition in our coaching and support group.
Let’s say you reach out to a business owner and want a little help formulating a response to something they say to you. All you have to do is post about the situation in the group, and we will tell you exactly what to say to close the deal.
We really do everything possible to help our students get clients, which is a big reason why our students have done so well with this side hustle since we launched it three years ago!
Where can someone learn how to become a Facebook ads manager?

You get lifetime access to the course for just $497. Just to give people a little perspective, Facebook training courses like this typically go for $1,200 or more, but we decided to price this course so that it was accessible to as many people as possible.
And since you can earn more than double the investment with your first client, we think it’s a pretty sweet deal.
But when you join you’re going to get more than just the course…
You’ll also get access to our coaching and support group where students can ask questions, get troubleshooting advice on their ads, and help them put out any fires that might come up with their clients. Membership in the support group is paid, but we give everyone who joins the first month for free to make sure they get all the help and support they need to be successful when they start. After that, it’s only $47/month afterward. And of course, the group is totally optional, you can leave at any time.
But think of it this way – you can get the course plus nearly a year and a half of support for the amount you can earn in the first month working with ONE client.
