Looking for something new and different to do? If you find yourself constantly grabbing your phone and searching “fun things to do near me tonight”, I’ve got you covered!

There are all sorts of fun and creative things to do in your hometown and even right in your own house. Whether you are looking for things to do with your friends or on a date night, these ideas will give you some entertaining new things to try. Plus, each of these is budget-friendly!

Fun Things To Do Near Me Tonight

Are you tired of the same old thing? Need some fresh and new ideas? Here you go! This guide is split up into different sections, so read through them all. You don’t have to live in a big city to have fun things to do.

#1 Live Music

First, look for live music concerts nearby. Sometimes there is live music at local coffee shops for free. The best place to find live music near you is by using the app Band Is In Town. You can search by date or artists and find some music nearby.

The chances of finding affordable tickets last minute to huge names like Taylor Swift are pretty low. So if you want something to do tonight, check out a local band instead.

#2 Play A Boardgame At A Coffee Shop

Another really fun thing to do is grab a board game and play it with a friend or a small group of friends. If it’s a small enough group, you might be able to play at the local coffee shop.

But if the group is pretty large, ask your local game shop if they have board game hours. Some places even have a room they allow people to use to play games in.

#3 Go On A Ghost Tour

Do you know if your hometown is haunted? Look up local ghost tours. Almost all of them accept last-minute additions. This is a really fun way to learn more about local history and folklore. You might even make a few new friends along the way (I mean meeting other people on the tour, not picking up friendly ghosts…hopefully!).

#4 Trivia Night or Bingo

Places like Buffalo Wild Wings and other bars sometimes host trivia nights. Some places charge a small entrance fee, but that also comes with the chance to win prizes.

If trivia isn’t your thing, look for a local game of Bingo. You’ll find people of all ages at these games. It’s a lot of fun, even if some of them are pretty competitive.

#5 Wine Tasting

Check out the hours of wineries nearby and see if they have wine tastings. You typically don’t have to schedule one, just walk in when they are open and ask to do a tasting.

It’s a fun way to get out of the house and experience a local winery. Chat with the person doing the tasting, they tend to know a few fun facts about the area.

What are Are Free + Fun Things To Do Near Me Tonight?

If you are on a budget there are still lots of free things you can do nearby. Check out this list and find something new to try.

#1 Hiking

No matter where you live, there is always a park somewhere nearby where you can take a walk for free. Most state and national parks charge a small entrance fee. But local city parks are free.

TrailLink has a huge database of hiking trails, organized by state. You can search their interactive map and find one close to your house. It’s a nonprofit app and free to register and use. Once you register you can download maps to use offline. It is a fantastic resource.

#2 Library

The library is another fun place to go for free. Take a coloring book and colored pencils and just enjoy some peaceful time alone.

You can also start researching random topics that you’ve always been curious about, or sit and read a few chapters of a new book.

The library also has video games and movies you can rent. I personally think you can’t beat reading a good book though.

#3 Walk Around Downtown

Another free option is to just take a nice walk around downtown. Does your town have a historic district? Stroll around and read some of the signs. Window shop among the stores. Take some photos and play a tourist in your own town. This is even more fun when you go with a friend or someone you love.

#4 Photo Scavenger Hunt

While you are walking around the local park or downtown, do a photo scavenger hunt. It’s really easy to create your own. Make a list of colors, shapes, and random things you want to find. Then challenge yourself and your friends to all find them. See who can complete the list first, or just take your time and do it together.

GooseChase is an app that lets you set up a scavenger hunt game for you and your friends. They also have templates that you can use if you don’t want to create your own game from scratch.

Huntzz is another app that has ready-made scavenger hunts. Play scavenger hunts that other local users created in the app or make your own. This one has a fun treasure map looking interface.

#5 Geo Caching

Geocaching is another fun and free thing you can do, no matter where you live. Download and use the app to find local treasures hidden in your town. When you find a geocache, you can either take what’s in the container and replace it with something new or leave it alone, depending on the instructions.

What Are Fun Activities for Adults?

Just because we are all grown up doesn’t mean we stop having fun. There are lots of things happening all around you, you just have to know where to look.

When you are old enough to drink, there are a lot more “fun things to do near me tonight” than you might think!

Grab a friend and try out one of these amusing ideas.

#1 Dance Lessons

Sometimes the local parks and recreation department offers free or low-cost dance lessons to local people. Check it out and see if yours does. If your local city doesn’t offer it, you can try a local college.

Taking dance lessons is a really fun way to break out of the monotony of day to day life and get moving!

#2 Painting Nights

These happen at so many places now. There are stand-alone locations that offer group painting lessons, but these days bars and local restaurants also host paint nights too.

They are so much fun! I love doing them with my friends. It’s hilarious to see how the same painting turns out wildly different. At the end of the night, you have a new painting you can hang up.

As an added bonus, many of these spots let you BYOB. Whether you prefer wine, beer, or a soda, it’s always nice to bring a favorite beverage.

#3 Nature Walks

It doesn’t matter how old you are, walking around nature and taking hikes is a lot of fun. Stay off your phone and take a few deep breaths. Enjoy getting away from the noises and notifications of your screens. Maybe even try your hand at nature photography.

#4 Game Nights

Game nights are a ton of fun. Explore a new board game with your friends or fall back on one that you already know how to play.

If you want to do game nights on the cheap, there are lots of apps you can download for free or just a few bucks. The heads up game is always fun for a group!

Or you can play Pictionary or charades – there are lots of free apps for these games.

#5 Escape Rooms

Everyone should try an escape room, at least once. They are challenging and fun. You bond together as you work as a team to solve the puzzles and get out of the room.

Read the reviews, because some escape rooms are easier than others.

Search Local Calendars

When you are looking for “fun things to do near me tonight,” check out your city’s community calendar. Another place to look is Facebook events. Use some of the ideas from this list and get out of the house for some fun tonight.
