Your Money Saving Yoda back here today to share something with you.
☝️ First, ☝️I know that life is crazy right now. But that’s why – now more than ever – there’s nothing better than the Fierce Budgeters Community to help you take REAL action in your money life. Because this is the chance that I wish I had – the step-by-step, holding-your-hand, do-this-then-that guidance – back when my husband and I were DEEP in our money struggle.
✌️Second, ✌️I. AM. SICK. of seeing the BS things all over Instagram shaming people for not having an emergency fund… but not offering help. Just kind of rubbing the whole “ha ha I have money to help me get through this time and you don’t”… and I’M SICK OF IT.
So instead of bashing you (like apparently so many people in the personal finance space have been doing), let me tell you about my darkest money days that shaped me into the money-saving coach that you need to help you in your life right now.
See, I’ve been a saver my whole life… until I married a spender.
And that was when my life changed.
Suddenly, there was no more money. We both spent like there wasn’t anyone else spending, too. The small expenses that each of us were making – the “it’s just a dollar,” “it’s just a cup of coffee” kind of expenses – we draining our budget. Meaning that we basically lived separate lives, pretending the other wasn’t there and then blaming each other when it came time to pay the bills and our account was in the negatives.
Truthfully, we lived on a tiny income of $17, 000 take-home as a family of 3.
For years and years, we lived life paycheck-to-paycheck. We struggled every single day.
Each time we went to the store, it was a guessing game of “credit card roulette”: will the card have enough money or will it get declined?
We never knew.
There were times when we had to make a decision between letting a bill go to collections and getting food in the fridge.
It. Was. MISERABLE.
Finally one day, something snapped in me.
?There HAS to be more to life than constantly struggling.
?There HAS to be more to life than this paycheck-to-paycheck treadmill we were stuck on.
?This is NOT how my life is going to be!
?And my life changed.
No, we didn’t start making more money (we lived on my husband’s income of $11 an hour for 5 years). But I started finding new ways to save.
I got creative. I pinched every penny I could. We made a budget (ok, we made a LOT of budgets after the first 10 failed). We used cash. We stopped going out. We made sacrifices for the better of our family.
And it WORKED.
We changed our lives. From pinching pennies, managing our money ruthlessly, and watching our budget, we were able to save up enough money to buy a house on that $17,000 income!
So what’s it to you?
I know your story. Because it was mine, too.
❌ We tried EVERYTHING… and nothing worked.
❌ You name a budget system and I tried it. You name a free printable and I’ve got it.
❌ I started and quit a budget at least every other day.
❌ I guess I just SUCK at money – that was what I believed for years!
And it all kept coming back to this: I needed someone to tell me the EXACT STEPS I needed to take to get out of the hole I was in.
❌I didn’t need another person who was making triple what I made that I “just needed to cut out trips to Starbucks” when I barely had money for groceries, let alone Starbucks!
❌I didn’t need ideas for people living on 2 incomes.
❌I didn’t need someone who was like “oh we live on one income” and that 1 income is 6 figures *eye roll*
✅ I needed ideas for REAL families. I needed ideas for someone who was living on one income and making it work.
✅ I needed the hand-holding, walking-with-me-through-the-fire, step-by-step, do-this-then-this help that just didn’t exist… but now it does.
It doesn’t have to take you years and years of struggle. Learn from someone who has been there!
