You don’t listen to 1 person who lifts you up, but you’ll listen to 1 person to bring you down??? GIRL. Let’s talk.
I have friends (go me! 😉 ).
These friends are my go-to cheerleaders. I know if I post in Slack that I need a pep talk, or in Voxer that I need some good vibes, or in Messenger or Marco Polo that I feel like poo…. I KNOW – without a question – that these people will build me up, give me all of the encouragement and love I need to get going.
But even then… sometimes, I don’t listen… sometimes, I still get down on myself.
And sometimes… I feel like “of course you guys like me… we’re friends… so it doesn’t really count…”
*Enter: Jane Doe and her anonymous 1-star hate review on my best selling product 3 years running*
I was SHOOK. To my core.
I started doubting EVERYTHING.
Who was I to sell this? Maybe it really wasn’t good enough. What if it didn’t help anyone? Maybe I really was a loser? Who DO I think I am? Maybe I don’t have any business being here…..
MAYBE I SHOULD JUST QUIT.
**Pause. Because these are the ACTUAL thoughts that went through my head when I got that emmeffing review.**
**Pause: My business makes six-figures annually. This year was the biggest. And we’re only available for exponential growth.
**Pause: I have THOUSANDS of happy buyers for that same product.
**PAUSE: I wouldn’t listen to the 10+ people in my close circle of friends, or the hundreds of active students and members who tell me my stuff is the bomb… but I’ll listen to the ONE person who clearly had a bad day?!
That is so backward.
But it’s what SO many business owners do with their businesses. That one bad review literally haunted my nightmares for a few days of self-doubt.
And then I remembered: If I let that ONE crabby person be the reason I stop sharing my work and my message with the world, I’d be doing the hundreds and thousands of people who DO need my help a disservice.
So, sorry, Jane Doe. But you have no power here.
Busting through limiting beliefs and dropping truth bombs are my specialty in my day-long intensive Voxer coaching in my bio. Lemme know if you need a money mindset or a business strategy pep talk. I have a few spots open before the Christmas holiday and would LOVE to help you get the same kind of rock-solid belief in how amazing your work is.
