Kid Activities for When You’re Stuck at Home – How to keep your kids busy during the quarantine or when they’re stuck at home

Make slime at home

Making slime can still be fun! Every kid loves to make and play with slime! Most of the time, you can just use household products which makes it super easy. Check out this Youtube video on how to make slime for beginners!

Do a puzzle

It’s good for the brain and it keeps kids occupied! Walmart, Target, and Hobby Lobby always have inexpensive puzzles to buy.

Nerf war

If your kids are old enough and have Nerf guns, you can organize a Nerf War in your backyard! They’ll be sure to remember this one as a fun childhood memory.

Make a fort

Don’t you remember making forts as a kid? I think it’s a rite of passage for kids! You can let your kids make a fort and have a picnic inside or fall asleep in it watching a movie.

Bake something yummy

Cake mixes are super cheap at the store and easy to follow. Or you can even teach your kiddo how to make a family recipe! This helps them practice and learn measurements with a delicious end result!

Learn a dance

There are tons of videos on Youtube or Tiktok for you and your kiddos to learn dances together! Just Dance for Kids is a great Youtube series, so check it out!

Build something

Give your kids some household items you’re not using anymore like shoeboxes, plastic straws, rubber bands, or the cardboard from a toilet paper roll and tell them to create an invention!

Chalk art the driveway

Have your kids get their creative juices flowing and draw chalk art on your driveway or sidewalks. Even have them spread a positive message for people walking by!

Fly a kite

Who doesn’t love a good kite flying session?! If you have one, grab it and go teach your kiddos how to fly a kite!

Play with Play Dough

Have them pull out the Play Dough and have a contest for most creative design from their Play Dough!

Write letters to people in need/on the front lines

Nursing homes, hospitals, police stations and firefighters always appreciate words of encouragement for the hard work they do. Since they’re doing so much to keep us safe, have your kids draw them pictures or write encouraging messages on them and go deliver them (contactless!) together.

Write letters to family and friends

Speaking of writing letters, send some of those same happy and encouraging messages to your friends and family who are at home during quarantine. It will brighten everyone’s day!

Learn how to draw

There are tons of Youtube videos teaching kids how to draw simple pictures all the way to elaborate murals. Check out Art for Kids Hub for tons of videos teaching step by step drawing techniques for kids!

Come up with a skit

I used to love coming up with skits and acting them out for my family. Give them a topic or movie scene they’re familiar with to act out. Let them use fun clothes and props from around the house and film them with your phone!

Do arts and crafts

This is the perfect time to bust out the watercolors, drawing pads, and acrylic paints! Give them some blank paper and see what they come up with!

Read!

Reading is one of the most important things your kids can do for their reading and language arts development (my teacher friend told me!). Setting aside 20-30 minutes a day for your kids to read will not only give you a few minutes to yourself, but it will help them stay on track and grow as readers!
