Best Apps to Save Money and Get Cashback – Want to know the secret to saving the most money possible on grocery shopping and online shopping and how to build a savings on autopilot? Then you need to check out these amazing and easy to use apps to give you coupons or cashback every day and every time you shop.
True story: I LOVE to save money. It’s like a game to me: how can I find the best ways to save more money.
This kind of thinking is what brought me to finding out about money saving apps for your phone. I mean, we all have smartphones now, why don’t we make them work for us? You can find so many ways to save money all straight from your phone.
One more thing you need to know about me: I’m lazy. Oooooo I said it. If something requires a lot of work from me, I’m going to pass on it. And from what I’ve heard from a lot of people, I’m not alone in that. (Yay! Lazy people UNITE! But later because…. ugh… work) So Why would I make saving money… hard?
Spoiler: I don’t. I make it easy as pie (or cake… maybe cookies… it’s as easy as saying “yes” to your favorite dessert, ok?). The less work I have to do to save the better. So here’s how I make my money work for me using just my phone.
These are my favorite ways to save money when I buy something AND to get cashback all at the same time (aka – stacking those apps to make them work for you so you can sit in the parking lot with your kids hollering at each other in the back seat and be earning gift cards for your next date night or be working to pay for that Disney vacation you’ve been dreaming of. ). 🙂
The TOP Best Apps to Save Money and Get Cashback that you NEED to have
Ibotta
Ibotta is on the top of my list of the best apps to save money and get cashback because you don’t even need to buy brand name stuff to get coupons.
Ibotta is a free app gives you coupons for things you buy from the grocery store in the form of cashback. Think of it like couponing without all of the work. It’s all done on an app without ever having to sift through newspaper leaflets or coupon books.
And it’s not just for to brand name items. If you buy milk, even generic brand, you will get cashback. Just take a picture of your receipt and you’re all set. (Legit, it’s that easy. But hang on… I STACK my coupons using a few more apps to really ramp up the cash that I get back.)
You get a $10 bonus when you sign up to start using Ibotta HERE!
Ebates//Rakuten
I LOVE Ebates (who just changed their name to Rakuten)! LOVE them! They work better on the computer than on your phone, but they’re still on my list of the best apps to save money and get cashback because they work with sites like Walmart and Target as well as Amazon (but only for a few categories).
What’s not to love about cash back almost every time you shop? Now they have the option to get cash back IN the stores! Their app makes is super easy to use this new feature, and they have a video on their site that explains it easily. (Plus, you can download the extension for your laptop when you shop and it will pop-up each time you can get cashback!)
You get a free $10 gift card for signing up for Ebates//Rakuten!
Swagbucks
Swagbucks is on the list of the best apps to save money and get cashback because it’s not just a money saver… it’s a money maker, too.
You can earn SB for many purchases that you make, so by having the app handy to know what will earn you SB could result in you making some serious SB cash back.
I use the SB I earn to get Amazon gift cards to use or to give as gifts.

Digit
Digit is one of my favorite apps. If you’ve ever struggled saving money, this is the app that you need. Digit learns about your banking and automatically moves money into a savings account for you.
There’s no thinking, there’s no hemming and hawing about if you can or can’t save the money. I absolutely love this app. If you’re wondering if it’s right for you, here’s a great video on how it works.
Find out more about Digit and start saving!
(The only downside is that it’s $1.99/month, so if you aren’t saving more than enough money each month, it won’t be worth the money for you. But the next one will be worth it because it’s freeee.)
Acorns
Acorns does the same thing that Digit does, but it takes it a step further – it invests the money that you save automatically and makes you more money. It saves your money automatically, rounds up to the nearest dollar when you buy something, and invests all of that money for you so that it’s earning while you’re saving on auto-pilot.
It’s really cool to see your money grow without ever having to touch it. Plus, if you’re like me and have been scared out of your mind to even think of investing, this is a much easier way to start. Plus, you can choose how risky you want to be. 🙂

Gasbuddy
Find the cheapest gas close to you. It might only be a few cents/gallon, but that really adds up over time. This is super helpful when you’re on a road trip and need gas, but all of the places near the highway charge $.50 more than the place down the road.
Cartwheel
If you shop at Target, you should get the Cartwheel app. It will show you coupons that are exclusively available on the app that will save you money on every purchase. Some of the coupons are for 25% off or more!
Shopkick
**I mentioned how I stack couponing // cashback apps and these are the ones I use to do that along with Ibotta.**
Shopkick pays you for just walking into a store. No kidding. let’s say you do your shopping at Target. You pull up Shopkick so that you earn points for just walking into Target (get 250 bonus points for signing up HERE and using the code KIND938215). And then once you’re in the store, you can earn more by taking pictures of products on the shelves (not even buying them, just sitting on the shelf).
It’s like a scavenger hunt that pays you. You earn points for gift cards or even Paypal or Visa (but I use the gift cards because #imafatkid and I like to get dinner out a lot!).
Grab your 250 bonus points for signing up HERE (and don’t forget to use the code KIND938215 to get the bonus!)
Fetch
Fetch is an app that lets you take a picture of your receipt and earn. Yeah, I thought it was fake, too. But I’ve got 62k points already by scanning all of the receipts that I’ve been lugging around in my wallet or purse (true story: I’m a receipt hoarder). All you’ve got to do is take a picture of the receipt and you get points.
Sometimes, the receipts don’t count, but I still scan all of them. I’ve even gotten some points for things bought from random local stores that are totally not national brands.
You get 2,000 points for signing up HERE and using the code T1GQ2 (which is literally like getting $2 toward your favorite gift cards fo free).
ReceiptPal
ReceiptPal is just like Fetch. You take a picture of the receipt and you get points that you can put towards gift cards. And the bonus awesome sauce here: you can use all of these apps all at the same time. How cool is that?!
You get a bonus for signing up HERE, too!
These are my absolute favorite apps to use to help me save money!
- You can stack coupons with Ibotta, ReceiptPal, Fetch, Shopkick and others to get double or triple cashback every time you to go the store.
- Save money without ever knowing it using Digit and Acorns (I use this money to fund our family vacation and Christmas each year!)
- Each time I shop online, I use Ebates to get cashback. Plus, they now check for coupon codes for you to use each time you go to check out!
There are plenty of ways to save money without trying too hard. Because, let’s be real, saving money can be a chore! Let’s take the tough part out of it and you’ll be shocked at how quickly you will see those dollars add up!
