The Ultimate Guide to Surviving Teething
Teething is basically every parent’s worst nightmare. No matter how many children I have, teething will always be awful. It takes a lot of guts (and coffee!) to survive teething! That’s why you need to know my Ultimate Guide to Surviving Teething.
Here’s what I know of teething.
One day, you have a sweet, happy child who sleeps and eats regualrly. You think you’ve finally gotten on a schedule! Just as the Hallelujah chorus starts going off in you mind… you wake up and someone has replaced your baby with a crying, mostly inconsolable, slobbering, angry child who wails when you put him down.
Let me breakdown what you’ll need:
Orajel
This. Stuff. Works. Wonders! There’s no better tool in the world to help a baby feel better instantly than Orajel (or the more natural teething gel). I usually give Orajel as a last resort at bedtime or in the car to help out baby.
During the day, teething isn’t fun, but it’s usually manageable. It’s at night when you really want to make sure that you have Orajel for your baby.
I’ve also used Orajel to see if in fact my baby was teething or not. If I put the Orajel on his gums and he calmed down, I’d know we were dealing with a teething issue and not a potential stomach bug or a cold.
Amber teething necklace
How cute is a baby wearing an amber teething necklace? Adorable! If you’re unfamiliar with them, amber teething necklaces are not actually for the baby to chew on. The baby wears them and the amber helps soothe the pain of the teething and relax your baby as well. You can read some more about them here.
They come in all different colors and shapes. But always make sure to take them off of your baby at nap time! You don’t want anything around your baby’s neck when they sleep.
Silicone teething necklaces
Your baby will want to put everything in his mouth when he’s teething, and you don’t want him to be grabbing at your favorite necklaces to chew on all of the time. A silicone teething necklace is the solution to allow your baby to chew on soemthing without destroying it.
They’re really cute and fun looking too! You can get all different shapes and colors. There are some that don’t even look like teething necklaces. They’re fun for the baby to chew on, and they really do save your favorite jewelry from being the most expensive teething toy in the world!
Mesh teething feeder
These are funny looking little mesh teething feeders are a lot of fun for baby. You put a piece of frozen fruit into the mesh bag, and the baby chews on it. The frozen fruit helps to soothe the gums and is a fun activity for baby. The mesh bag also helps to ensure that baby doesn’t get too much food or can take a big chunk out of the food.
The best foods to do this with are frozen strawberries or some other sweet fruit that will keep baby occupied for a while
Drool bibs
You might think that your little one is drooly when they’re a new baby, but that’s nothing compared to teething drool! You really need cute drool bibs because otherwise, your baby would be a soaking wet mess in 2 seconds.
Drool bibs are so much cuter now than they were when my odlest was born. Now, these bandana bibs are so cute!
In a pinch, you can use a burp rag and just tuck it into the back of your baby’s onesie. But these bibs are the easier and cuter choice!
Teething is awful. But there are some tips and tricks, and lots of helpful gadegts and tools that will make it less painful for everyone. Every baby is different, so what’s worked for your baby might not work for your friend’s baby. But it’s all worth a try to both help the baby and to help you keep your sanity!
What’s your go-to teething fix?
